I’ve been there.
In my first year as a “professional photographer” I shot 93 sessions and collected exactly $8,000 in session fees. I worked about 30 hours a week, many in the middle of the night, and had over $11,000 in expenses. I had a toddler and was pregnant with baby number two.
I loved what I was doing, but I was exhausted and this new “hobby” job was not serving my family.
I either needed to quit or change things… like a lot.
It’s been a long and productive journey to where I am now. Six years and three kids later, I am able to still get to do what I love because I run my family photography business efficiently and I charge enough to make it worth doing.
When I was getting my act together as a business owner, I searched for help. Since I don’t photograph weddings or work in fashion, I found that a lot of the “photography business” education available by accomplished wedding and commercial photographers simply didn’t help me. So, I developed some great systems, tools and boundaries that keep my business organized amidst my crazy life — on my own. Then I decided to help other family and portrait photographers in ways that nobody helped me.
After teaching five business workshops and working one-on-one with several dozen wonderful local photographers here in the Phoenix area, I have fine-tuned these templates and tools and finally launched Julie Griffin Education.
